Dr. Cristina Gasparetto devoted her professional career to developing the Multiple Myeloma and Amyloidosis Program at Duke University. Combined with gaining a strong foundation in translational research in the laboratory of Dr. Richard O’Reilly at MSKCC and tumor immunotherapy with the human vaccine team at Duke University under direction of Dr Eli Gilboa, she was fortunate to have strong mentorship in clinical care at Duke University. This work led to her focused interest in improving the care of patients with plasma cell dyscrasias and with Division leadership support, she developed the Duke Multiple Myeloma Program, a multidisciplinary team managing all aspects of care for patients from diagnosis through all phases of care. Dr. Gasparetto has led numerous studies in both the transplant and non-transplant settings. She has co-authored numerous investigations on new target therapies in Myeloma as well as novel approaches for transplantation. Her experience in both the transplant and non-transplant setting working with countless patients led her to author a book for patients and trainees on the disease in 2018, and it is already in its second printing. During her career she has been invited as a member of numerous national and international Plasma Cell Dyscrasias committees such as the Center for International Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR), the NCCN guidelines, Alliance/CALGB myeloma executive committee, the Clinical Trials Network (CTN), the International Myeloma Working (IMWG), and the ‘Connect Registry’ among others. As the leader of the Myeloma Program at Duke she is also responsible for mentoring early career investigators at our Institution and for developing, opening and supervising new studies targeting multiple myeloma, amyloidosis, and other Plasma Cell Disorders.
