Internal Medicine Resident
St Elizabeth's Medical Center
I am Paolo Lopedote, MD, Internal Medicine (IM) Resident Physician at St Elizabeth's Medical Center, a Boston University teaching hospital. Graduated in 2018 from San Raffaele Vita-Salute University with a thesis on the diagnostic potential of the L265P MYD88 mutation detection in the CSF of primary CNS lymphoma, my initial area of focus included aggressive lymphomas, and in particular those with a CNS dissemination. Through a research fellowship at Fred Hutchinson in Seattle and the mentoring of Dr. Filippo Milano, I could expand my areas of interest and explore the universe of allogeneic stem cell transplant and, in particular, cord blood transplant. Following this experience, I started my hematology training at Istituto Seragnoli in Bologna, where I stayed for 1.5 years before embarking on my internal medicine residency in the US. That time not only improved my clinical skills and my commitment to malignant hematology but allowed me to gain experience in a variety of conditions. However, it was only through my subsequent training in IM at St Elizabeth's Medical Center that I could become a complete and independent physician, able to recognize and face some of the most challenging clinical scenarios in medicine. While in training, I had the possibility of starting a collaboration with Dr. Giada Bianchi at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Through her mentorship, her committed team, and our great colleagues at the University of Milano, we explored the role of CHIP in patients with AL Amyloidosis. Now that I am approaching the end of my IM journey, I am ready again to dedicate my energies, enthusiasm, and newly acquired knowledge to the care of patients with hematological malignancies and advancing the field.
