Hatice Satilmis was born on the 25th of September 1995 in Brussels, Belgium. After completing her secondary school, orientation Science-Mathematics, she started her academic career at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. In 2019, she obtained her Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences with distinction. Hatice joined the Hematology and Immunology research group at the faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the VUB to start her PhD in Biomedical Sciences under the supervision of Prof. Kim De Veirman.
Her PhD's focuses on Drug repurposing and novel strategies to overcome multiple myeloma cell drug resistance. Hatice presented her results at several (inter)national conferences, and she authored 4 scientific publications in internationally peer-reviewed journals of which one as first author. Her first first author manuscript entitled as ' Targeting the β2 -adrenergic receptor increases chemosensitivity in multiple myeloma by induction of apoptosis and modulating cancer cell metabolism' is published in the Journal of Pathology in November 2022. During her PhD, she also assisted in several practical courses of bachelor years in biomedical sciences. Furthermore, she supervised internships and master’s theses of students at the VUB and Erasmus students.
