Dr. Anand Jillella is currently at Augusta University Health with 24 years of experience in hematology and oncology. He is currently the Director of the Georgia Cancer Center (GCC) Clinic, Ambulatory Services, Network and Outreach, GCC Associate Director of Medical Oncology Services, and Chief, Division of Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant. He has also been appointed to the first J. Harold Harrison, MD Distinguished Chair in Medical Oncology. Prior to his arrival here, Dr. Jillella served as a Professor of Hematology/Oncology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
As Division Chief of Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at Georgia Regents University from 2005 - 2013, he took the Division from 9 to 18 faculty and increased the clinical, educational and research activities. The division had high visibility in the health system and was considered a model for others. His main clinical interest is Bone Marrow Transplantation, and areas of study include leukemia, multiple myeloma and other blood-related cancers. He was the acting Director of the Cancer Clinical Research Unit from 2010 to 2012, and Director and PI of the GHSU MB-CCOP program from 2005 to 2013; in this capacity he participated in many NIH and industry-sponsored clinical trials. Our performance in the MB-CCOP was excellent and the grant was refunded twice. In addition, Dr. Jillella has been an active participant in the cooperative group programs. In the last 10 years his research has been focused on Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia; a highly aggressive but curable blood cancer. Dr. Jillella and his team developed an intervention to decrease deaths during the first month from an estimated 30% to 7%. The survival rate from APL in his program has increased from 65% to 90%.
Dr. Jillella is a member of the Georgia Society of Clinical Oncology and currently serves on the Board of Directors.
