Emre Karayol, MD. Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Brigham and Women's Hospital.
Emre Karayol earned his MD degree from Cerrahpasa Medical School in Istanbul, Turkey. During his Medical education, he had many research experiences in Harvard Medical School-affiliated laboratories in the summers.
His first wet lab experience was in Dr. Keith Blackwell's laboratory at Joslin Diabetes Center, Boston, where he studied aging using C. elegans. He joined Dr. Roberto Chiarle's lab at Boston Children's Hospital for two respective summers to study oncogenic chromosomal translocations. He contributed to a published work in Cell Reports on the generation of chromosomal rearrangements using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing tool. Later, he joined Dr. Alfred Goldberg's laboratory at Harvard Medical School, where he studied the cellular pathways influencing the proteasomal activity in ALS.
After graduation from medical school, Emre practiced medicine as a general practitioner in the emergency departments of several government hospitals in Turkey for two years.
He joined Dr. Giada Bianchi's laboratory at the Brigham and Women's Hospital as a Research Fellow in October 2022. His primary focus in the lab is on the plasma cell disorder AL Amyloidosis. He studies the mechanisms involved in immunoglobulin free light chain secretion and novel therapeutic strategies in AL Amyloidosis.
