Xavier Leleu is Professor and head of the Department of Hematology at Hôpital La Miletrie, part of the academic hospital of Poitiers (CHU). Pr Leleu clinical research is performed in the Hematology department and Inserm CIC U1402 THOR axis, a translational and clinical research unit dedicated to early phases clinical research. Pr Leleu also actively collaborates with the fundamental immunology lab Inserm U1313 IRATI on the role of the immune microenvironment in Myeloma and innate immunology.
Pr Leleu has trained in Myeloma since 1995 with Pr T. Facon as his mentor in Lille, and became instructor then associate professor in charge of the Myeloma clinic of the academic hospital of Lille since 2002 until 2015 under the supervision of Pr T. Facon. He received a Master degree in cellular biology at the University of Medicine of Lille in 2001 and completed his PhD in 2007 having done his research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA. His main topic of research was the preclinical development of novel agents in Waldenström macroglobulinemia and multiple myeloma with his mentors Pr IM Ghobrial and Pr S Treon in Prof. Kenneth Anderson’s laboratory.
Pr Leleu is a member of many scientific societies including the American Society of Hematology (ASH), the European Hematology Association (EHA), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG). Pr Leleu is a member of the Intergroupe Francophone du Myélome (IFM) in the board of director, currently the treasurer of IFM. Pr Leleu has published widely in the field of hematology, particularly on gammopathies, essentially Multiple Myeloma, along being on the editorial board of several noted journals in the field of hematology.
Pr Leleu’s main interest is the drug development in Myeloma most recently with a special focus on immunotherapy.
