3rd MBBS STUDENT
SETH GS MEDICAL COLLEGE AND KEM HOSPITAL,MUMBAI, India
I am Aditya Raniithkumar Nair, a third year medical student from Seth GS medical college, Mumbai. In my second year of studies, I got interested in neoplasms, malignancies and their pathophysiologies. I got particularly interested in haematological malignancies which is when I approached Dr. Bhausaheb Bagal, a haematologist oncologist at Tata Memorial Hospital to learn more about the subject and maybe work along and see the clinical pictures in blood cancers. Under Dr Bhausaheb’s mentorship, I learned a lot about haematological malignancies, particularly multiple myeloma. As it’s a relapsing and remitting disorder we decided it was important to conduct research on attrition rates as this would significantly impact the lines of therapies provided to patients and we also wondered how different it would be from Western literature given the socioeconomic and relatively late presentations in Indian populations. This is when three of my colleagues along with me started the research under the guidance of Dr. Bhausaheb Bagal. We had a lot of fun and learned a lot throughout the research and we are very pleased to be able to present our research at the International Myeloma Conference.
