Aintzane Zabaleta, from the Cancer Center Clinica Universidad de Navarra (CCUN). Graduate in Biochemistry (2002) and doctoral degree (2007) in Hepatology and Gene Therapy by the University of Navarra. Doctoral Thesis on the development of peptide- and dendritic cell- (DC) based vaccination strategies for the treatment of hepatitis C virus. During the postdoctoral stage (2007-2010) Aintzane moved to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), in Bethesda, where she was involved in different projects related with immune system, such as the study of NK cell-mediated anti-HCV activity in peripheral blood samples and liver biopsies from HCV infected patients treated with PEGylated IFN-2α and weight-based ribavirin. Back in Pamplona she worked as a production manager in a phase I/II clinical trial (Nº EudraCT 2010-024043- 32 titled “Phase I/II clinical trial of therapeutical vaccination of chronic Hepatitis C patients by the administration of NS3 coding adenoviral vector transduced autologous dendritic cells”) at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra. She was trained to work in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulated environment and was involved in the process of drafting Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs). From 2012 to 2015 she moved to CIC biomaGUNE (San Sebastian, Spain), a biotech Centre focused on application of innovative technologies to treat high-prevalence human diseases. She worked in the development of immunization strategies based on chemical synthesis of functionalized nanoparticles with immunostimulatory molecules and chemotherapeutic drugs. From 2015 up to today, Aintzane has been working in the group of Dr. Bruno Paiva, participating in pre-clinical studies with the objective of guiding on the development of new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of multiple myeloma, as well as in the analysis of data from different clinical-trials.
