Annika Werly (Cand. Med.) is a doctoral candidate and part of the research team for Multiple Myeloma at the Department of Internal Medicine V (Hematology, Oncology and Rheumatology) at Heidelberg University Hospital in Germany. Her research focuses on risk stratification models of precursor states of multiple myeloma.
Before enrolling as a medical student at the Faculty of Medicine in Heidelberg in 2017, Annika trained as an emergency medical technician (EMT) in Munich and is currently working part-time in patient transport ambulance and emergency medical services for the German Red Cross (DRK) while continuing her studies. She gained additional work experience as surgical assistant in the field of minimally invasive hip and knee joint arthroplasty at Ethianum Klinik, Heidelberg from 2018 to 2021. Prior to her studies, she completed volunteer internships in Mwanza, Tanzania and Malalcahuello, Chile. She hopes to continue her research in Multiple Myeloma after graduation.
