Matthias Hellberg-Naegele started his career as a hematology/oncology nurse on a transplantation unit at the University Medical Center Freiburg, Germany in 1996. In 2007 he started with an advanced practice nursing role in patients with multiple myeloma. Since 2019, he has been setting up a nursing clinic at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Zurich, Switzerland.
Matthias Hellberg-Naegele also is associate lecturer at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University in Stuttgart, the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Freiburg, the University of Applied Sciences in Bochum, and the Careum University in Zurich. He has held teaching appointments about advanced nursing practice, multiple myeloma, oncology nursing, symptom management, patient education, and chronical illness. He also gives courses about application of chemotherapy all over Germany.
Over the last decade he was an invited speaker at many congresses, e.g., the congress of the German hematology society (DGHO), the congress of the German cancer society (DKG), the congress of the German oncology nursing society (KOK), the congress of the European oncology nursing society (EONS) and the IMW in New Delhi and Boston.
Matthias Naegele is co-president of the German hematology and oncology society nursing group (DGHO) and the Swiss academic society for oncology nursing (AFG). He is member of the editorial board of the journal of the German oncology nursing society (“Onkologische Pflege”) and reviewer for different scientific oncology journals. He is also a well-respected publisher in all German nursing journals with more than 50 publications.
Matthias Naegele received the Research and Development Award of the Cancer Society of Baden-Wuerttemberg in 2005 for his “outstanding work in patient education in oncology”.
