Attending Physician
University of Leipzig
Since the beginning of my medical studies at the University of Heidelberg in 2005, I have been interested in translational cancer research. During my MD thesis at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, I developed an imaging protocol for follow-up of bone metastases using high-resolution CT, MRI, Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI), and Dynamic Contrast Enhanced (DCE)-MRI in a rodent breast cancer model. After obtaining the Medical Board licensing Certificate in 2012, I became a fellow in the Department of Hematology and Oncology and Research Assistant in the Multiple Myeloma (MM) Service at the University Hospital of Heidelberg, headed by Professor Hartmut Goldschmidt. Under the supervision of Professor Jens Hillengass, I was able to translate results from the animal model of breast cancer bone metastases directly into clinical research in myeloma patients. During that time, I performed clinically orientated research, especially regarding feasibility and outcome of autologous transplantation in elderly patients and
management of neuropathy in MM. I was a visiting research scholar at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (RPCCC) in Buffalo, NY supported by a grant from the German Cancer Aid and Professor Philip McCarthy. I have (co)-authored over 50 research articles on MM in peer-reviewed journals and acted as a Co-investigator in several phase I-III clinical trials. After completion of my postdoctoral research training, I was appointed Assistant and later Associated Professor of Oncology at RPCCC. Currently, I serve as attending physician responsible for patients with plasma cell disorders at the University of Leipzig. Supported by my mentors from RPCC and Heidelberg, I am pursuing an academic career in hematology and oncology with a special focus on
single cell multi-omics in multiple myeloma.
