Michele Cavo, MD, is Full Professor of Hematology at the University of Bologna, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Bologna, Italy, and Head of the “Seràgnoli” Institute of Hematology in Bologna. He received his medical degree cum laude from the University of Bologna, where he was also awarded his postgraduate degree in hematology. After becoming Assistant Professor of Haematology, he was appointed Professor of Hematology at Bologna University School of Medicine. From January 2000 to June 2005 and from April 2017 to date Professor Cavo has served as Director of Postgraduate Residency in Hematology at the University School of Medicine in Bologna. He was, and currently is, a member of the board of the Italian Society of Hematology (from 2004 to 2009, and from 2017 to date), and has served as Treasurer of the Society. He is actually Chair of the GIMEMA Multiple Myeloma working group and Vice-President of the Executive Committe of EMN Research Italy. Main research interests of Professor Cavo focus on plasma cell dyscrasias and multiple myeloma. He has been the PI of academic phase II-III studies and was also involved in many registrative phase II and III studies. Professor Cavo has authored more than 550 papers published in peer-reviewed journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, the Lancet, the Lancet Oncology, the Lancet Haematology, Blood, the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Leukemia, British Journal of Haematology, Blood Cancer Journal, Haematologica, and others. Professor Cavo has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Clinical Oncology and Haematologica.
