Dr. Rui Bergantim, a clinical hematologist, hails from Porto, Portugal. He earned his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Porto, Portugal, in 2006. He subsequently completed his residency in Clinical Hematology at the Centro Hospitalar São João in Porto, Portugal, in 2013. In 2011, he undertook a six-month residency in 'Stem Cell Transplant' at the highly-regarded Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, USA. He currently serves on the medical staff of the Department of Hematology at Centro Hospitalar São João and Hospital Lusiadas, located in Porto, focusing on plasma cell dyscrasias, acute leukemia, and autologous stem cell transplant. In addition to his clinical duties, he is pursuing his doctoral studies with the Cancer Drug Resistance Group at IPATIMUP/i3S, also based in Porto. His main research interests are hemato-oncology and stem cell transplantation, particularly addressing multiple myeloma and drug resistance issues related to microRNAs and extracellular vesicles. He has recently joined the COST action IMMUNOMODEL, a project to model immunotherapy response and toxicity in cancer.
