Joaquin Martinez-Lopez received his MD from the University of Granada, in 1991 and his PhD from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 2002. During the year 2010, he completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship within the Cellular Therapy Program at the Princess Margaret Hospital, University of Toronto, Canada.
Joaquin specialized in Haematology at the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, Madrid, obtaining his license in 1997. In 2016, he became in head of Hematology Department at H 12 de Octubre; in 2018 he became professor at the same University and in 2022 became Full Professor. He joined the CNIO in November of 2014 to lead the Haematological Malignancies Research Unit CNIO-H12O. In the last 15 years he has participated in more than 350 articles in international peer-reviewed journals. He has presented more than 700 abstracts at scientific meetings. He had eight patents seven of them are international. As clinical researcher, he is director of the phase I clinical trials in Hematology of hospital 12 de Octubre, he is principal investigator in more than 100 clinical trials, and 40 phase I clinical trials. His most recent efforts are focus on measurable residual disease and in novel advances immunotherapeutics for multiple myeloma and leukemia.
